Now that I am actually writing the research portion of the thesis, I realize that there are still a few articles I need to read very carefully in order to fulfill the full potential of the paper part of the project. One of the things I never carefully read that now I realize is CRUCIAL to my thesis, is this essay:
The Interpassive Subject by Slavoj Zizek.
It is pretty clear to me that the reason I never carefully read this is because Zizek gets on my nerves for the pretty basic reason that I find his writing snooty. However, I share his snootiness in regards to idealization of new electronic media, so this is a good article for me to use. Also he is talking explicitly and directly about my topic, in the way I am framing my topic, so there’s no excusing ignoring this one.
I wish Zizek wasn’t so hard to read for me. I am really fighting having to do this.
I also need to read “Film and Masquerade: Theorizing the Female Spectator,” in Screen by Mary Ann Doane
and Laura Mulvey’s ” ‘Afterthoughts on ‘Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema’. Inspired by King Vidor’s Duel in the Sun.”
